Autumnal atmospheric and depressive black metal perfect for the later months of the year. This album feels like it came from the most heavily shadowed and oldest parts of the Germanic Black Forest. 7/10

This is a indeed the right atmospheric black metal soundtrack for autumn. Indulgent and cold soundscapes driven by piercing guitars and extreme, depressive screams result in a melancholic and touching flow of autumnal moods. But "Melancholie im Blattfall" does not stand for ambient boredom, instead the album is dynamic, varied, powerful and sometimes even raging. Really well balanced! The epic anthems have their own character and differ from each other, that keeps the tension high. Impressive!
Favorite track: In unendlichen Himmeln.

The German Atmospheric/Depressive Black Metal solo-project Herbstlethargie was founded by multi instrumentalist Herbst (also: Gernotshagen, on drums, bass, additional lead guitars, duduk and vocals) to express his very own musical ideas and creativity. The first lyrics date back more than 10 years.
When by 2015 all conceptual ideas and further lyrics had been finished, the band name was chosen and older lyrics revised to fit the final concept of expressing the different phases of autumn from the early cool nights of September, throughout the colder days and weeks, to the harbingers of early winter and the first snow.
Songwriting took until 2020, and in 2021 the album recording was done with the help of Alboîn (also: Eïs and others) on rhythm and lead guitars, as well as Florian (Sylvaine, Melatonyn) doing guest vocals and Lisa on cello. Recommended for fans of Woods of Desolation, Nyktalgia, Panopticon, Waldgeflüster.

The atmosphere of this album is fantastic. Makes you feel like you're knee-deep in the trenches drenched in mud, filth, sweat, and blood. Truly encapsulates the horrors of World War I, and the fact that the lyrics of some of the songs are taken from old war letters really adds to the authenticity.

Blackbraid quickly followed up their 2022 debut in 2023 with more native folk infused furious black metal. This is by no means a sophomore slump as it is equally excellent, methodical, melodical, and approachable as the first record. 9/10 RJ
